Energy allocation

With our lives busier than they have ever been it is so important to manage our energy instead of looking at it as managing our time. When working with clients one of the things I hear over and over is “I don’t have time”. Flipping that switch and asking how can I manage my energy puts a totally different spin on it.

Action steps

The first rule of energy replenishment is knowing what your needs are, do you need 8 hours of sleep a night, do you need healthy nutritious food, do you need ME time every week or 2 litres of water a day.

It’s important to know your needs because if you are low on energy, the first thing to do is STOP and replenish your energy with one of your needs.

Start by making a list of your needs and what you need in order to be a functioning human being. Remember that it’s okay to meet your needs first because when you are okay you can then give generously to others.

Work in 50 minute bursts, set an alarm on your phone and when it goes off get up, stretch, move around.

Re hydrate! When you wake up have a full glass of water and carry a water bottle to sip throughout the day, drink at least 2 litres a day. This will increase your mental focus, physical performance and flush out toxins.

Batch work to match the energy you are in. For example, if you are having a high energy day do tasks that require the most amount of your energy. If your energy is low reserve this time for doing low energy tasks such as writing, researching, responding to emails.

Eat foods that will fuel your body and keep your energy up longer such as leafy greens, proteins, nuts and seeds.
