Yesterday I was talking to an old friend, we hadn’t spoken in a while and were catching each other up on what had happened in our lives and things we had been doing in the past year. Her journey was fascinating, I was hooked and we got talking about how when we are in our lowest or darkest place in life that is where our growth as a human accelerates. I call it the “beauty in the dips”

You see language is so important for us, I can’t stress this enough. The way we use it to speak to ourselves and others shapes how our lives play out.

So for example when we are at a low point and struggling with what is happening to us; it is all to easy to use negative language and to totally wallow in it and let the situation consume and infuse every part of our being. Hands up I have been there more times than I care to admit out loud – but I am admitting it here 😉

OR

we can change our perspective of it and ask ourselves “what is this situation teaching me” or “what can I learn here”.

Chances are when you look back at any low in your life and you have the perspective of time you see that how your story unfolded was exactly how it was supposed to and you can more easily and gracefully say things like – “If that hadn’t of happened I never would have (fill in the blank)”

If you look back over your life you start to connect the dots, you are able to zoom out and see the bigger picture but sometimes when you are in the weeds or “zoomed in” it is hard to see the woods for the trees. In other words you can’t see that the trees add up to something greater – the woods, because you are only concentrating on the tree.

So instead of gaining these learnings months or years later, the “what is this situation teaching me” question enables us to pause and zoom out in the moment and see the beauty in this particular dip.

Lovely lady, if you are in a dip right now know that there is a learning in it for you and reframe the pain by shifting your perspective.

Yes shifting perspective can be tough and it doesn’t just happen at the click of a finger, rather it is something you have to work on consistently but trust me it is worth it.

So have a beautiful day and let me know what is on your mind, I’d love to hear from you!!
